10th annual ‘Celebration of Life’ event

On Saturday, 19 November, acclaimed opera singer Toni Marchi will host the 10th annual ‘Celebration of Life’ charity event to help raise funds for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Originally from Naples, Mr Marchi moved to Australia in 1971, travelling back and forth to Italy ever since.

Around 12 years ago, Mr Marchi was diagnosed with cancer. He suffered an ongoing battle that lasted 12 years but has thankfully been in remission for the last three years.

Throughout his life, Mr Marchi has made it his mission to help others suffering with a cancer. “I have been a cancer patient and have had to battle this problem myself, but even before the cancer I was always involved in fundraising,” he said.

“I believe that the best thing in life is when you can help other people and provide a service to other people who are perhaps less lucky than we are. That’s what I believe our existence is all about and that is why I have been very much involved in raising money for this cause – particularly during the last 12 years. I know what it’s all about, I know the suffering, I know the needs of the hospital and I believe that research is the best investment.”

Mr Marchi will be performing at the event along with a guest singer from Naples named Valeria Bianca and a young up and coming singer. “I think is important to support young talent and I like to promote a young artist at every function I organise,” explained Mr Marchi.

Guests will also be entertained by a Latin American band and dance performances.

“There will be lots of eating and lots of dancing,” said Mr Marchi. “We want people to dance and enjoy themselves – that’s why we call the event a ‘Celebration of Life’.”

The event is being held at the Casa D'Abruzzo, 55 O'Herns Road, Epping and will commence at 6.30pm until late. Tickets are $95 and include a five course meal, drinks and entertainment. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

To book or for more information, call Casa D'Abruzzo on 03 9404 4452 or 0412 359 198.
