A taste of ‘La Dolce Italia’

Following the successful La Dolce Italia event that was held on the streets of Melbourne in 2010 and 2011, organisers have announced that it will be back in 2012 on a much grander scale.
La Dolce Italia will take place at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne from 10 to 12 August 2012.
Endorsed by the Italian Consul General of Victoria and Tasmania, The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Melbourne and the Italian Institute of Culture, this event aims to bring the best of Italian food, wine, fashion, tourism, sport and art together under the one roof – and in doing so, La Dolce Italia plans to transform the Royal Exhibition Building into ‘Little Italy’ for the duration of the event.
With so many things to see and do, organisers have said that there will be something to cater to all interests.
Food lovers will be able to indulge in Italian specialties and sample Italian wines by visiting the many stalls or by attending the ‘Italian Table’ restaurant.
This temporary restaurant will be set up especially for La Dolce Italia, providing visitors with a fine dining experience. Chefs will prepare a four course lunch menu and a seven course degustation dinner, all matched with Italian wine varietals.
For those after something a little more casual, guests will be able to witness pizzas cooked before their eyes, as well as some innovative pizza art.
Several masterclasses will also be held as part of La Dolce Italia, including wine, olive oil and cooking classes.
Inspired by the Slow Food Movement, fresh food markets will celebrate the fine Australian produce that has been grown with Italian love.
To add, those with a keen eye for fashion will be able to witness some of the latest trends coming off the catwalks of Italy through catwalk shows and parades, as well as competitions for up and coming Australian fashion designers and the hairdressing competition, La Dolce Italia Styles War.
Melbourne is widely regarded as Melbourne’s fashion capital and Milan has firmly cemented itself as the fashion capital of Italy. La Dolce Italia plans to bring a piece of Milan to Melbourne, with some of the biggest fashion houses set to take centre stage. According to organisers, visitors will be able to witness the very best Italy has to offer in men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, jewellery, accessories and cosmetics.
Other attractions include flower events and competitions, Venetian masks, puppets and Murano hand-blown glass.
